Associations: re-register under the new Act by 30 June 2027

Papua New Guinea has a new law for associations. The Associations Incorporation Act 2023 was passed in 2023 and its supporting regulations commence on 1 July 2026, when the new regime takes effect. The Associations Incorporation Act 2023 replaces the 1966 Act. Every existing incorporated association must re-register to remain on the register.

Re-registration is free, online, and takes the place of your annual return for the first year.

To re-register, log in to your online registry client account, confirm or update your association's existing details, and provide the new information required under the Act, including your current committee members, any public officers, your business activities, and your association subtype. More information about these requirements can be found at the link below.

    Using the business entities registry

The IPA business entities registry is fully online and open to local and overseas businesses. Anyone can search it for free, and anyone can create a client account to register a business or an association and make necessary filings.

    New entities
Form a company, register a business name, or file a notice of intent to form an association online. Paper filings are accepted only for these first applications.
    Online filing and payments
After the initial application, all filings must be done online. Pay from your client account using BSP Online, card, or cash and cheque at BSP.
    Existing entities and data migration
Legacy data was migrated to the new system in 2022 to 2023. Search any entity to see its full history.
Companies struck off in the re-registration
Companies that did not re-register when the new system launched were struck off the active register. These companies can no longer be restored administratively and must apply to the National Court for reinstatement.
    Expired business names
A business name that misses its annual renewal lapses. The owner can revoke the lapsed status by filing a J53 and paying a K250 penalty, then renew for the standard K150.
Anti-money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT)
PNG is strengthening its AML/CFT framework, including new beneficial-ownership reporting under the Companies Act. IPA administers most registered entities and is a key agency in this work.
